Naeem Butt - Computer science trainee
Year of study
2021/22
What were you doing before SCITT?
For the past eight years I have been working within an IT communications company as the Head of Knowledge and Transfer. This role involved developing and creating differentiated training materials, tailored to employee and business needs.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I have a passion for computer science and it has played a big part in my life through my studies and employment. I want to have the opportunity to make a difference to young people's lives and help them on their journey to success.
Why did you choose North East SCITT?
I chose North East SCITT as I wanted a route to teaching where I would be within the school setting from the outset. I also liked how the Research School is closely linked to the SCITT, providing me with a toolbox of skills to tackle situations inside and outside of the classroom. I liked that the course offers a range of mini placements and main placements to gain a good understanding and hands-on experience of what school life is like.
What has been your favourite part of training so far?
My favourite part of the training has been the placements and learning how to become a reflective practitioner. The SCITT team are fantastic in their delivery of core training. The training sessions are planned effectively to help develop pedagogical subject knowledge as well as skills to become a teacher.
Do you have any tips or advice for potential trainees?
Enjoy and embrace all experiences because as soon as you enter placement, the time goes really quickly.
