How to apply for teacher training
Applications are open for our primary and secondary teacher training course places starting in September 2025. Applications are submitted through the Department for Education teacher training portal.
We want ambitious new or recent graduates or careers changers with a degree who are passionate and enthusiastic about their subject and have the desire to share this with young people of all abilities.
Support for BAME applications
North East SCITT (formerly Shotton Hall SCITT) is committed to ensuring that applicants are supported in fair access to our recruitment and selection process. We have secured the expertise from Merit, to ensure that candidates from black or minority ethnic backgrounds have equal access in applying to initial teacher training.
MERIT is a dedicated service which aims to raise awareness of the opportunities available to black or minority ethnic candidates wishing to train as a teacher locally and to provide support mechanisms to guide them through the application and interview process.
Candidates can access support directly by contacting Merit on 0191 433 8647 or emailing: shebajoseph@gateshead.gov.uk
